And just like with every other industry, customer ratings, peer reviews, and competitions are a big deal in the cannabis world. One of our favorites here at Dabstract is the annual Cannabis Cup.
Dabstract continued its legacy of excellence at the 2019 Hempfest Cannabis Cup in Seattle, claiming first-place with our Orange Zkittlez Live Resin Pax Pod in the Vape Pens and Cartridges category. This is one of the most competitive categories, as it is one of the largest volume SKUs in the recreational cannabis market.
Hempfest is an annual cannabis trade show and experience put on by Seattle Events. The prestigious Cannabis Cup, hosted by High Times and Dope Magazine, is the largest cannabis competition in the world and takes place throughout the year at major cities in legal states around the country and world.
“We have been a part of the recreational market in Washington since its inception. I couldn’t thank the team we have who put us in this position enough. From the breeders and cultivators to the extractors, it takes dedicated staff to bring this truly unique craft product to market,” said Dylan Thiel, Dabstract’s lab manager and CTO. “We are honored to take home this award and to be a part of a movement that is providing consumers with a product that meets the highest standards of quality. All of our products, including our vape cartridges, contain only cannabis derived ingredients that we develop. We don’t use any fillers, additives, or purchased terpenes.”
The 2019 Seattle Hempfest took place August 16-18 at the iconic Myrtle Edwards Park, a long stretch of scenic downtown along Seattle’s waterfront, marking the 28th annual celebration of all things cannabis. The show, attended by 100,000 people from around the globe, featured a pop-up carnival (DOPEland), political rallies, art and music, meet and greets with some of the industry’s biggest names and a trade show.
Dabstract’s 2019 winner, the Orange Zkittlez Live Resin, was made using a unique extraction process that produces High Terpene Extract (HTE). This specific product also utilized a special harvest technique that results in a product form called Live Resin.
The HTE is derived through proprietary extraction process that extracts a full and unparalleled terpene profile from the cannabis flower.
Live Resin is a harvest technique in which the cannabis flower is flash frozen minutes after harvest to maintain optimal terpene and cannabinoid preservation. The plant does not undergo a drying and curing process, which causes the cannabinoids and terpenes to degrade.
“Flash freezing the flower before it goes through a drying and curing process gives the resulting concentrate product the most accurate chemical representation of the living plant,” said Thiel. “The Live Resin extraction process, and specifically our HTE, gives the user the best and most accurate cannabis experience. We wanted to capture the “in your face” aroma we get when walking into a grow room. There is no other product like it.”
Generally, HTE has a terpene concentration that is between 20-40% and a cannabinoid potency of 40-60%. It is a terpene and cannabinoid rich extraction form that is unique and proprietary.
Dabstract has been a consistent winner in cannabis competitions. In 2018, Dabstract took home first place awards for THC Distillate and THC Live Resin, and runner up awards for THC Live Resin, CBD Isolate, THC Isolate and THC Wax/Budder at the Washington Dope Cup awards.
